Phytochemical and Essential Oil Constituents of Piper Umbellatum Linn Leaves

The study investigated the phytochemical and essential oil compositions of Piper umbellatum Linn leaves. leaves were detached from stalk washed carefully under running tap water, air dried at room temperature (20-25 ) for 14 days. ground into a fine powder using grinding mill. Phytochemical oils composition analyzed GC/MS. revealed higher concentrations phenolic acids (434.95164 mg/100 g), tannin (326.79716 flavonoids (263.37233 stilbenes (144.63450 g). Essential total forty compounds which alpha-pinene (28.09%), beta-pinene (17.73%), beta-caryophyllene (15.21%), Nerolidol (11.72%), Germacrene D (10.14%) present in considerable amount. P. are therefore rich bioactive components that possess wide range biological activities.
